Losing a breast to breast cancer can be one of the hardest losses a woman can face, but today there are options for women looking to rebuild and one of these options is Breast Reconstruction. In many cases a reconstruction can be done immediately after the mastectomy. Today’s reconstructive surgery can create a post-operative breast that can closely match the natural breast. To create the breast reconstruction, Dr. Ayala will work with your oncologist to make the best possible conditions for the reconstruction.
This reconstruction typically takes more than one operation, though while the initial reconstruction surgery to create the breast mound is done under general anesthesia, the follow up procedure may be done on an outpatient basis with only local anesthesia. These follow up procedures usually involve a skin expander with breast implant, and reconstruction of the areola and nipple.
Breast Reconstruction can be performed in a few different ways depending on each woman’s specific needs and goals. To learn about your reconstruction options, contact our office to schedule your consultation with Dr. Ayala.
