Brow Lift

General Information

The forehead and eyebrow region often show noticeable signs of aging. Looseness in these structures may cause drooping eyebrows, eyelid hooding, forehead furrows and frown lines. In brow lift surgery, the structures responsible for these problems are tightened or altered to smooth the forehead, raise the upper eyebrows, and improve frown lines. A browlift may be performed alone or in conjunction with other procedures, such as facelift or eyelid surgery.

The Procedure

Dr. Ayala performs brow and forehead lifts to raise eyebrows and reduce ridges and furrows on the forehead, thus creating a smoother, more youthful appearance. Browlifts are usually combined with other procedures such as blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) and facelifts to improve the look of the eyes and overall appearance of the face.

Surgical Methods

  • Traditional Brow lift (Conventional method): An incision is generally made across the top of the head from the front of one ear to the front of the other ear. The forehead and brows are elevated and excess skin is removed. The flap is then sutured.
  • Endoscopically: Newer techniques now allow the forehead to be lifted through small incisions in the scalp by using an endoscope and other specialized instruments.

Recovery: What to Expect

Antibiotics may be prescribed for several days following surgery. Sutures are generally removed within one week. Swelling and some bruising may occur, which should subside within a few weeks. The doctor will prescribe ice compresses and eye exercises to reduce swelling and regain mobility. Women will be allowed to use eye cosmetics up to two weeks after surgery. You can proceed with your normal daily activities within 1-2 weeks.
