What are My Treatment Options for Lip Injections?

JUVÉDERM^® Ultra and JUVÉDERM^® Ultra Plus

If you have naturally thin lips or your lips have lost shape over time, JUVÉDERM^® Ultra can add definition and volume to your lip contours for a softer, more sensual pout. In addition to having an almost immediate plumping effect on the lips, this hyaluronic acid-based filler can be injected to smooth creases surrounding the nose and mouth. We also offer the JUVÉDERM^® Ultra Plus formulation, which consists of a thicker gel that can treat deeper nasolabial folds and marionette lines.

Restylane^® Kysse

Restylane^® Kysse is a new, innovative injectable designed to volumize the lips and achieve natural-looking augmentation. As the first lip filler made with XpresHAn Technology^™, Restylane^® Kysse is formulated to be flexible and move freely with your natural facial expressions. It can also improve the texture of your lips by softening perioral, or “lipstick,” lines.

Restylane^® Defyne

As another variation of Restylane^®, the Defyne formulation is designed to improve lip lines and smile lines that may be preventing a more youthful appearance in the lower face. This filler is often excellent at smoothing facial creases that frame the lips, such as nasolabial folds and marionette lines, allowing a fuller look in the face to complement your lip augmentation.

How are Lip Injections Performed?

Lip injections are a relatively simple and predictable in-office treatment at Ayala Plastic Surgery. A topical anesthetic may be applied beforehand to improve the experience, but most patients report that injections are very tolerable and cause little to no discomfort. Your highly skilled injector will outline the appropriate injection site(s) according to your goals. The chosen filler(s) will then be meticulously delivered into the area of treatment to help you achieve a fuller, well-defined lip shape. Some swelling may occur, but should subside soon after injections. The entire treatment usually takes about 15 to 30 minutes and you may return to your normal routine right after your appointment.

How Long Do Lip Injections Last?

Lip augmentation with fillers provides results that can last up to one year with optimal treatment. The longevity of your specific lip enhancement will vary depending on which JUVÉDERM^® and/or Restylane^® formulation was injected. In general, the outcomes from Restylane^® Kysse and Restylane^® Defyne are capable of lasting approximately 12 months, while patients who undergo JUVÉDERM^® Ultra/Ultra Plus often enjoy the outcome for 6 to 12 months. While facial fillers cannot achieve results that are as permanent as a surgical procedure, “touch-up” treatments can always be performed as necessary to help you maintain your rejuvenation without undergoing surgery.
